Using SEO as one of your online marketing strategy is referred to as a smart long term move in the internet marketing world. It’s a low cost and long term marketing strategy that will bring thousands of targeted visitors to a website. However, there is SEO and then there is SEO Marketing.
The difference between the two however slight can make a world of difference when it comes to getting actual useful traffic that will bring money and just non to very low converting traffic.
SEO is achieving an ideal ranking on SERP (Search Engine Result Page) for a website or website page for certain keywords.
SEO marketing on the other hand is SEO plus the overall incorporation of converting that traffic into customers. Let me explain.
They are two ways to make money using SEO. The first is to get a ton of traffic and make money off of affiliate programs or Google Adwords. The second is to use that traffic and convert it into clients.
If a business is in the second category, then it needs SEO marketing and not just SEO.
Turning an SEO campaign into an SEO Marketing campaign is very simple but often forgotten.
The first step in achieving SEO marketing is making sure that you are targeting the right keywords. Many website owners or companies make the mistake of over generalizing their business by using broad keywords like “cars for sale” or “accountant”.
Even though these keywords will generate a lot of traffic it will be useless in most cases since a person living in Boston, MA will not purchase a car from a dealer in London.
An accounting firm is just wasting money on a keyword like “accountant” because even though they are accountants, no one looking for an accountant will search for that keyword. They will search for something more specific like, ”accounting services in Cleveland” or “small business accounting services”.
The key point is to realize that the correct definition of a word(s) is essential when it comes to finding the right keywords to target.
The second step is making sure that the landing page for the keyword is not only rich in keywords associated with the target keywords but also meaningful to the page itself.
A visitor that found a website thru a specific keyword will usually not spend his time scrolling and reading thru the page looking for what he searched for. If the keyword landing page does not show clearly at the top of the page what they were looking for that visitor is as good as gone.
